FAANG is an acronym for the tech giants Facebook, Apple, Amazon, Netflix and Alphabet’s Google. Originally the term was FANG, with Apple not included.
FANG was coined by CNBC’s ‘Mad Money’ host Jim Cramer in the US. Each of the FANG stocks is focused on tech and internet services.
Cramer has since said: “I never thought I’d say this, but I rue the day we created this silly thing,” and stressed that each is different from the others.
He said: “Sure, they each have some sort of overlap, but you know, really, what they have in common? The fact that… they used to spell the word FANG, which is why we on ‘Mad Money’ coined the… acronym five years ago.”
