Investment manager

Investment manager

If managing your own portfolio sounds like a drag, an investment manager will be happy to do it for you. For a percentage of the total value of your portfolio (or assets under management - AUM), they will make decisions based on the investment objectives and parameters you dictate.

Unlike a financial adviser, who offers advice on all aspects of your wealth, an investment manager will focus his or her efforts on one specific portfolio.

If you go down this route, don't forget to regularly evaluate your investment manager's performance to make sure they're doing the business. The best measure is to see if they are beating their benchmark, which is normally an index like the FTSE 100.
